Project Duration: 4 Weeks

Design Brief:

For this studio project, you will be speculating 10-20 years into the future. This project can be individual or with a 2-person group, but groups must display clear participation of both parties.

The design process you will follow for this project will have you:

  • Review existing trends in science, technology, sociology, and emerging fields to forecast the future (Research)

  • Craft a scenario to discover a future design problem (Storytelling)

  • Conceptualize solutions to this problem through design visualization, 3D models, and renders (Ideation & Concept Development)

  • Build quick form studies and prototypes to illicit user feedback (R&D)

  • Refine and Exhibit a high-fidelity physical concept with supplemental materials (Prototyping)

This story board sets up a narrative for my future. It follows John as he coasts through his day with AI telling him what to wear, make, think, buy, who to vote for, and even who to date. It shows his frustration with a lack of individuality and real connections.

Background Research and Framing the Future

This mood board helped me think about what the future may look like based on current trends. My ideas for what I wanted to design for in the future were based around a human need for individuality and a sense of more real, human, connections.

This “newspaper article” helps further set the scene for the project. It sets up the problem and provides some background research for the direction of the final product.

Concept Ideation

All of these concepts revolve around restoring human connection and originality.

I decided to move forward with the holographic campfire concept because the idea of using technology to make it feel like you weren’t using technology was an exciting direction to me.
